The keywork of the Selmer 74 tenor saxophone is extremely fluid and reacts well to even the most wicked licks. A major favorite among jazz saxophonists, the Reference 54 tenor saxophone offers a rich throaty sound that even"barks" well in the lower register.

Used selmer reference 54 tenor serial numbers#
These Reference horns were inspired by the Legendary Mark VI horns that seemed to be better in the lower serial numbers in 1954. It can speak really soft, bend notes with ease, bark, and when humming into the mouthpiece adds a new wave because the reed vibrates with both waves and that’s when you can make her growl as well. It allows you to open up and project with the best of them. This mouthpiece focuses the sound beautifully and the tone has purity and a projection that is sweet. Included is the Super Session 80 mouthpiece and is so easy to get the sound you want with ease. Being a professional I not only babied it I always opened her up after getting home to air out. As you can see in the pictures there was never any pooling of condensation that was left there to corrode or discolor. These newer Alto saxophones were designed to produce the darker sound of vintage horns without the intonational and inconsistency trade-offs that came with many of the run-out of tolerances of the old pieces.

I know of no known diffenciencies or troubling issues and would expect the same if I were the buyer as well. I Have never had to go to the shop for anything and has no dings, dents, scratches, etc. Used powder sheets on occasion to keep pads from wanting to stick, thus increased life. Pads, resonators, real mother of pearl key buttons, rods, and everything else is in as new condition.

Though I have not played many of the Selmer Mark V1 horns, it is my humble opinion the old school craftsmanship Selmer wanted to reproduce reminiscent of the vintage horns, was truly found in these high copper content horns. Swabbed every session, finger prints and oils always wiped off, EVERY TIME. more with the very best of a guarded care. This sax has been played in church only, yes really. I am the original purchaser and this is a one owner.
